A Video is Worth a Thousand Swords

2/4/2017

In our new era of "alternative facts," I'd like to offer my support and empathy to the mainstream media. As someone who has been in the trenches with the "everything you've been taught about history is wrong" crowd for a couple of years now, I know it's frustrating to deal with people who have embraced lying not just as an occasional expedient behavior but as the organizing principle of a lifeway,  Don't give up -- you'll get the hang of it eventually.

As evidence that the steadfast collection and presentation of facts can eventually have an effect on the narrative, I present to you this video by Critical Thinking:
Now that's some funny stuff.

Well I think Hutton's followers are starting to realize all the hooey coming from him.

He inexplicably claims (in his video about the owndership of the roman sword) that the producers of the Oak Island show did not want to find any artifacts pre 1600 AD, hence why they didn't want to recognize the roman sword, as that would trigger the Canadian government to come in and claim ownership? There is no rule or legislation for that. And the Native American archaeology of the island would already predate 1600AD so why hasn't the Canadian government come in?

He also states the the Canadian Prime Minister is enacting Sharia Law on Feb 16 as well. So there's that.....

Who needs the sword anymore when you can move up to the Ark of the Covenant? Genius deflection move.

Here are a few choice segments from the rest of the video that clip is from... Actually, I didn't start copying the URLs of the exact time segments until the end of this 95-minute video, but it's pretty much more of the same...

https://youtu.be/lWRjenOgklE?t=4234 - BREAKING NEWS, apparently! JHP now claims that HE, in fact, orchestrated Swordgate in order to get the scientific community to expend its resources on the issue, because there would be more discoveries to come (crossbow bolts, burial mounds, the list goes on).

https://youtu.be/lWRjenOgklE?t=4384 - So now, JHP claims that everyone else is riding the coattails of the Swordgate controversy, ironically...

https://youtu.be/lWRjenOgklE?t=4519 - Until they put up the science on their swords, he says... Like the evidence against him doesn't already outweigh anything he's produced by a scale of 100 to 1...

https://youtu.be/lWRjenOgklE?t=4543 - He keeps trying to reduce the opposition to people who don't really know about the Swordgate issue. JHP talks about people claiming HE bought the sword from eBay, which trivializes the huge amount of research and data that conflicts with his narrative.

https://youtu.be/lWRjenOgklE?t=5451 - Again with the bait-and-switch, trying to reduce his critical opposition to uninformed people who claim he bought the sword from eBay... His notion of debate here is also ironic, because from what we've seen, JHP is the one who won't debate outside the little bubble of his own influence, with people who will actually call him out for his bullshit.

https://youtu.be/lWRjenOgklE?t=4592 - "[...] but I don't a rat's ass about the sword, if you'll just get under the water, and get to the mounds and the other stuff."

I think that little quote, if you can read between the lines, is highly indicative of what's always been important to JHP: publicity, fame and money. His fringe science/treasure hunting community is what this is all about, in the sense that each member is another potential income source. Another ad click, another subscriber, another book sale, another TV audience, and on and on...

Found this on my search of the sword and watched the video. I find it hard to believe a well known and respected guy like Hutton would make this up. Does anyone know if this will be covered in his new show with Scott Wolter? There must be more to this.

Well known? Maybe. Respected? Not in my corner of town. And anyone pushing pesudo history, will be slammed in Nova Scotia.

Let's start calling him the 'sock puppet'

Here's a couple more shining examples of the J. Hutton Pulitzer ethos, from one of his recent videos...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QaPDnBQAk0#t=2462 - The reason why he gets trolls. Note his claim, "The only power they have over me, is to peel off all the bullshit weak minds." He implies that only the strong-minded would still be listening to him, which is a classic empowerment technique used by conspiratorial and fringe proponents, who appeal to their followers with the whole divine insight thing...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QaPDnBQAk0#t=2580 -- He goes on to call Nova Scotians "Nova Scrotums," then reads a letter from someone and shows everyone a picture of the him. He calls it "mean mail."

It's crazy how paranoid JHP is getting. Considering what an "iron grip" he keeps on all his social media to discourage debate and critical opinions, you wouldn't think it would be that big of a problem. I think in his mind, anyone who disagrees with him is a "troll" or a "hater," though...

It's funny, because some of his critics (like Andy, on this blog) seem to have a WAY higher tolerance for that stuff. I've actually been surprised by some of the rambling, no-value comments that Andy hasn't deleted from JHP's followers. And when it comes to JHP's critics, the majority of people I see posting here are at least somewhat restrained and level-headed...

Most of them aren't rude, threatening or anything like that. It's just people talking about why he's wrong. Like I said, maybe that's all it takes to be a troll, according to JHP. It's easier to dismiss criticism as trolling rather than simply recognizing it, let alone defending it.

Do you all have facts to point to?

On this blog, you can find most of the work Andy's done here, along with some community contributions:

http://www.andywhiteanthropology.com/fake-hercules-swords.html

All of the most important Swordgate info should be there, but there may be some less-important blog posts that aren't included. I'm not sure if posts like this one are being tagged anymore, and if that's the case, it would be hard to find everything unless you chronologically browse backwards through every blog entry.

But like I said, I think the most pertinent info is all in that link.

If you want to start from the beginning and go chronologically, you can use this page:

http://www.andytheargumentativearchaeologist.com/roman-sword-from-nova-scotia.html

I haven't added to it since September, but there's plenty read. There's no shortage of facts, and none of them point to any of the swords being authentic Roman artifacts.
